Award winning underwater photographers, Lynne Browne and Terry Melius, began snorkeling together while on a fishing trip to Walker's Cay in the Bahamas. Their early attempts at underwater photography were not very successful as they quickly learned how hard it can be to take pictures in an environment where everything is moving (water, sealife, and themselves), and where the vibrant colors below the surface are masked by the ocean itself. Determined to persevere and demonstrate that stunning images could be captured without the benefit of scuba gear, they began to study their medium at the Smithsonian Institution, where they met their mentor, Eliot Cohen. Under Eliot's tutelage, Lynne learned advanced photographic editing techniques and print making, while Terry specialized in photographic presentation.
